UIUC provides the information for mail and packages at https://housing.illinois.edu/MyHousing/Mail-Packages below is my summary:

  • Addressing: All packages MUST be addressed to the resident and their hall address.
  • Same-Day/Food Delivery: Must include full name (first & last) and room number. Otherwise, you must pick it up yourself. University Housing isn't responsible for deliveries left without contact information.
  • Fall Housing: Packages for students with fall housing contracts will begin being accepted on August 1.
  • Notification: You will receive an email notification at your Illinois.edu address. You can also set your preference for package notification, such as a text message, by logging into MyHousing.
  • Pickup: Present your i-card (or Illini ID QR code in the Illinois app) at your hall's package station. No proxies allowed.
  • Processing Time: Housing aims to process packages the same day they are delivered.
  • Holding Time:
    • Packages not picked up within two weeks during the semester will be returned to sender.
    • Packages will be held over Fall, Winter and Spring Breaks.
  • Pickup Locations:
    • Ikenberry Commons: Student Dining and Residential Programs Building (SDRP), first floor behind the staircase. (Mon-Sat, 9am-6pm, 217-300-0393)
    • Urbana Residence Halls: Your hall's service desk. (Check individual hall pages for details).
    • Daniels & Sherman Halls: Your hall's service desk. Do not ship packages before check-in. Packages will be accepted only after check-in.
    • University Housing Apartments: Secured package mailbox system. A key will be placed in your apartment mailbox. Return the key to the lock on the package box after retrieving your package.

Mail:

  • Addressing: Street address, room number, and hall are all required. Missing information can cause delays (2-5 days).
  • Format Example:
    • Name
    • University Residence Hall/Room Number/Hall Name
    • Street Address
    • City/State/Zip + 4
  • Apartments: See the Apartment Resident Handbook for apartment mailing address guidance.

For example, for a UIUC student living in Van Doren Hall, its shipping address should be like below:

Your Name (Your Full Name)
Ikenberry Commons/Room [Your Room Number]/Van Doren Hall
1215 S. Fourth St.
Champaign, IL 61820

Explanation:

  • Your Name: Use your full legal name, as it appears on your official university records.
  • Ikenberry Commons/Room [Your Room Number]/Van Doren Hall: This is the most important part for ensuring it gets to you within the dorm. Replace [Your Room Number] with your actual room number (e.g., Van Doren Hall, Room 201).
  • 1215 S. Fourth St.: This is the physical address of Van Doren Hall.
  • Champaign, IL 61820: This is the city, state, and zip code for Champaign.
