UIUC Dorm Guide: Find Your Perfect Fit !!

I would like to share the consolidated dormitory information at UIUC for those who need to have information to determine the best location.

Don't stress too much about choosing a dorm based on proximity to a specific part of campus. As a freshman, you will be attending classes across campus. Plus, the bus system is really great. I lived in Van-Doren Hall as a freshman and could get to my engineering classes faster by bus. Personally I would rather not recommend Van Doren Hall. One good thing was ARC is nearby, but the building is so old, narrow, and hot.

If you're a freshman, I highly recommend focusing on the mostly freshman dorms on campus, like Ike (aka Ikenberry) and PAR/FAR. You'll meet more of your classmates that way.

Personally, I'd suggest looking into the "large double" rooms in Ike. They're about 30% bigger than regular doubles. They used to be triple rooms, but now they're only doubles. You even get an extra closet. If you full loft both beds, you can live really comfortably. 

The ISR rooms are slightly smaller than the standard double rooms in IKE. However, they'll probably feel even smaller in reality. There are columns sticking out from the walls in each room, so you can't place the beds or furniture flush against the wall. You can see these features in the floor plan. Furthermore, unless you're in LLC, most people living in ISR are usually sophomores or older.

Here's the information I've gathered. Each hall link will take you to a page with a floor plan link at the bottom. That will allow you to see where the room number you have selected is located. I recommend avoiding places like in front of the restroom, the shower, or around the trash can.
