A Hurdle on the Court: My Basketball Injury Journey | |||
| |||
Playing basketball is one of my favorite things to do. It's a game that makes me feel free and full of energy. "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." - Winston Churchill But one day, while shooting hoops with my friends, I ended up spraining my leg. It happened so fast. I was dribbling the ball, aiming for the hoop, when suddenly I made a quick turn and felt a sharp pain in my leg. I knew something was wrong right away. It hurt, and I couldn't put any weight on it. "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." - Nelson Mandela My friends helped me sit down, and I felt frustrated and a bit scared. I'd never been hurt playing basketball before. But they were supportive, making sure I was okay. They even made jokes to lighten the mood. "Friends are medicine for a wounded heart and vitamins for a hopeful soul." - Steve Maraboli Later, when I saw the doctor, they confirmed it was a sprain. It meant no basketball for a while, and I was bummed. But the doctor also said it would heal with time and rest. "Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting." - Joyce Meyer I learned that sometimes accidents happen, even when you're doing something you love. I missed playing basketball, but it made me appreciate how much I enjoy the game. It also taught me to be careful and not take things for granted. "Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it." - Charles R. Swindoll So, even though I couldn't play for a bit, I found other ways to stay connected to the game—watching matches, reading about basketball, and learning more strategies. It was a reminder that even when I couldn't physically play, I could still stay involved and keep my passion for the sport alive. "Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it." - Michael Jordan
