Why One-Punch Man is a Great Action Anime? | |||
| |||
I'm currently obsessed with the Japanese anime “One-Punch Man.” It's even more captivating than movies for me. While I haven't watched a lot of anime, I can confidently say this one surpasses most other action anime. You might think, "What does a movie enthusiast know about anime?" But, trust me, I have my reasons. First, "action" is my absolute favorite genre. My movie list is filled with 40-50% action, so you could say I'm a bit obsessed. One-Punch Man excels in its action. I search for action in everything: movies, games, anime, even real life! This anime delivers incredibly well-executed action scenes compared to others. Even watching YouTube compilations of the best anime fights, I always felt something was missing. One-Punch Man changed that. The reasons lie in its story. First, the protagonist, Saitama, is essentially invincible. As the title "One-Punch Man" suggests, he can defeat any monster with a single punch. Powerful monsters, driven to their limits, try their best, but Saitama always ends it with a single punch. This is where the first key difference with other anime emerges. Most anime have a limit. There’s always an ultimate boss or an unbeatable enemy. Even among the good characters, there’s a recurring pattern:
One-Punch Man doesn't have this limit. Saitama, immune to even the most powerful attacks, allows the viewers to anticipate ever stronger monsters. The second reason is Saitama's invincible nature, as mentioned before. This means you can watch the show without stress. We always know he's there and will win, allowing us to relax and enjoy. You might think that makes it boring, but the show is filled with diverse characters, ensuring thrilling moments and emotional depth. We're used to the villain overpowering the hero with incredible strength, only to have the hero rely on past memories and unlock incredible powers to win. While this can be engaging, it's repetitive. I, as a seasoned anime watcher, would have grown tired of this pattern, which is why I love this invincible protagonist. This is something I've even thought about while watching movies. "Can't the hero avoid getting hurt?" "Why does the good guy have to suffer?" "Can't the villain get a more satisfying beatdown?"
The answer is simple: Just make the protagonist incredibly strong. That's what makes movies like "The Equalizer" starring Denzel Washington so great. He doesn't make you worry throughout the film. Yes, he gets some minor injuries, but it's all part of the satisfying action. You could even go back to "Commando" with Arnold Schwarzenegger. In this world, where heroes are often frustrated and villainous threats seem insurmountable, One-Punch Man offers a satisfying contrast. A hero who defeats any villain, ever-growing monsters, and heroes with diverse abilities make this anime a perfect fit for my tastes.
